SNS 076: What Does Praise Look Like? Psalm 48, Psalm Tuesday

Can I just say, this Psalm seems to be the embodiment of what praising God looks like? Its placement here certainly makes it look like an answer to the call to praise God in our last reading (of Psalm 47). What a beautiful and very thorough offering of praise it is too. Now… well, before going any further, let’s hear this psalm first, shall we? Then we can chat further. Also, I have an exciting announcement, there is an actual release date for our collection of these readings. I’ll share that at the end of this episode.

SNS 070: How To Have Peace in Midst of Troubles

Can I just say that, once again, one of the most amazing things in reading these psalms, is how they speak to me as if written with me in mind? Being at peace even in the exact middle of some rather unpeaceful situations. What an amazing experience. Just how is this done? Well… let’s first hear the psalm shall we. Then we can see if you agree or not.

SNS 063: Knowing Pain AND Praising God, Psalm 35, Psalm Tuesday

Can I just say that this is the hardest Psalm, so far, for me to talk about? I mean, in each Psalm Tuesday episode, I share one thing that I learned or found to be profound. Yet, here in this Psalm, number 35, even after spending hours praying about it and pondering what to say… I was coming up blank. I was left wondering just how did this make it into a worship service, as the Psalms were originally used? I mean, yes, it’s an example of honest communication with God. And yes, it’s an example of the comfort of knowing God wants us to bring all our pain to him. And yet, these seem inadequate here. Because there is so much pain in this one. The psalmist says it's like he is bereft of a child. The task was hard, but not impossible. For, as the title suggests, I was led into a discovery of something quite profound. Something that speaks of the depths found in relating to and loving God. As always, let’s first hear the Psalm, then on the other side I’ll share what I’ve found.

SNS 054: Praising God Is to Draw Closer to Him. Psalm 26, Psalm Tuesday

In today’s Psalm, I heard something very cool. Here we hear a song of praise that involves the Psalmist asking God to refine his emotions, character, and mind. Praising God, asking God to refine him even further, and this because God’s kindness and graciousness are his focus. What an amazing thing! That trust in God will lead to asking for an even deeper connection with him. And doesn’t this remind you of the Greatest Command ever given, to love God with our heart, soul, and mind?

SNS 050: From Despair to Praise, One Man's Journey. Psalm 22, Psalm Tuesday

God, where are you? Have you ever asked this question? If you’re like me, then you have… at least once. And the good news is that we are not alone. In this episode we hear the Psalmist ask the very same thing. Indeed, we are privileged to get a glimpse into the journey he takes from despair, through reflection on God, on to an honest pouring out of his heart concerning his plight and then, arriving at a very interesting destination. Once God answers, the Psalmist is quick to let go the despair and begin to loudly praise God, the destination is joy in God. It is an honest journey through pain into the joy of acceptance and celebration of God’s answer. What an amazing journey to make.
